Luxury wins Coldplay contest
The Luxurys grandiose, arena-sized healthy should be right at home on Aug. 4, when the local rock band gets to opens for Coldplay at a sold-out TD Banknorth Garden.
The prized gig comes as the solvent of the Luxurys fetching FNX Radios Open for Coldplay contest, which drew more than 400 submissions from across New England. The upper side 15 entries were selected by the radio station, and the three finalists were selected by a public vote in on-line polls.
Out of the upper side three, each of which received more than 5,000 votes from fans, Coldplay in person selected the Luxury to join Santogold as an opening act.
It was a great competition, and the band in reality listened to all triad finalists, assured WFNX-FM program director Keith Dakin.
Though Chris Martin did not personally input on the finalists, Dakin said the Coldplay camp sent the station an e-mail award the time slot to the Luxury. Naturally, the banding members are psyched about the opportunity and support that got them there.
Weve had a pretty awful couple of weeks, said frontman Jason Dunn. Once the voting started, we had this outpouring of reenforcement from friends, getting the word out, making Facebook pages, e-mailing everyone they knew. It sounds so cheesy to say its all about the fans, but this really was.
Now, its up to ticket-holders to get to the Garden early.
